Description
The aim of this collection is to introduce the sub-discipline of visual anthropology in the Czech context and to bring at least part of the extensive discussion about the relationship between anthropology and visual representations, primarily about the relationship between anthropology and film (or video) to the Czech reader. The "ethnographic" film is presented here with all its controversies, diverse poetics, and fascinating ability to bring the world closer to us as it is experienced by others. The connecting thread of the individual texts is the effort to understand how we perceive other cultures through the eye of the camera, how cinematic images of the "others" are created, how we perceive these images, and how they contribute to our overall view of the world. This collection thus seeks to open some important questions and support answers to them with the opinions of respected anthropologists, film theorists, and directors. It is the first publication of its kind in Czech. Translated from English and French originals.
