Description
The author's ambition was not to academically address the issue of Sámi religion; rather, he aimed to highlight a unique cultural gem of Northern Europe, rooted as far back as the end of the Ice Age, and the danger of extinction that threatens it. Marek did not become a chief among the Sámi, with whom he lived for nearly two decades starting in the 1930s, but rather a friend and confidant. In the book 'Old Sámi Religion,' he confronts written sources (reports from missionaries, museum workers, and ethnographers) with the messages from his friends or directly with his own experiences. Thus, a sober, precise, and also academically significant work emerged on the exotic topic of European shamanism.
