Description

This Czech-language autobiographical account follows the marriage and divorce of a Czech father and a Spanish mother amid dysfunctional justice, public administration and diplomacy. Discrimination against men in European family courts brings the author to a crossroads: he gives up a comfortable diplomatic career to live with his five-year-old son in the Caucasus, triggering police and judicial repression. How do the institutions of a state that claims to uphold gender equality treat men? How difficult is it to choose between prison and emigration? What is life like without news of a kidnapped child, and later under the threat of an international arrest warrant? Tomáš Jadlovský (*1976) is a translator, journalist and former Czech diplomat. He studied Russian and English and has worked professionally in the translation of phraseology and idioms. As a diplomat, he served in Belarus and Slovakia. Since 2014, he has been pursued by Interpol and Europol at Spain’s request for the alleged abduction of his own child. He lives in Yerevan.
