Description
The prose of Čéťová and the thieves tells the story of the dreams and feelings of the children of the Karlín streets, who experience the first touches of the raw world at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. We view the world of that time through the eyes of eight-year-old Oldřich and his classmates, with whom he shares his adventures against the harshly poetic backdrop of a workers' colony. Standing against the children is the wall of a dull adult world, mechanical responses, primitive selfishness, and prejudices. However, the child’s soul can catch the threads of dreaming and fantasy, dwelling in landscapes of inner freedom. The author, Jan Kment, is also an artist and has accompanied his text with striking illustrations.
