Description
The novel set in the time before and several years after November '89 is populated by a multitude of characters connected to the thoughtful Aneta through their living or working environments. Each of them experiences a metamorphosis of their status, life chances, and social rise or fall. Their essence remains almost unchanged, only in new circumstances and possibilities does it either bloom or, conversely, a poor setting of character, ethics, a harmful addiction, or naivety leads to their downfall. Aneta, an outsider in the first half of the story seeking support from ancient thinkers, a shy, quiet yet dangerous young woman contemplating, for example, the murder of her tormentor, becomes a recognized photographer in the new circumstances. But she must also confront superficiality, calculation, and deceit in her struggle for love. Her life, apart from the need not to be rejected, is influenced by a passion to see, understand, comprehend, and also... photograph. Although the author personally experienced the environment of the house of horrors, the girls' boarding school, and the editorial office of a post-revolution newspaper, as well as most of the characters, it cannot be said that this is a novel as autobiographical as the three books of her trilogy (We Take What Is, Occupied, and We Know Our Own). However, the book 'Transformations' resembles the previous novels in its authenticity...
