Description
The name Dakota originally referred to a North American Indian tribe, and currently more commonly denotes a geographical term for one of the states in the USA, but aviation enthusiasts more readily associate it with the Douglas DC-3 aircraft, an undeniable legend in the field of civil aviation, but especially military transport. However, it only became known as Dakota during its military service, somewhat retroactively and actually in complete contradiction to its original type designation. Our publication focuses on the history of this aircraft's service along with its Soviet licensed version, the Lisunov Li-2, in our air force.
