When we received the lovely manuscript from Kamila Skopová in 2004, we had no idea what a tradition of Christmas books we were opening. Since then, this small book has been published almost annually with an ever-increasing print run. What has captured readers' interest during the Christmas holidays? – The Christmas publications of Kamila Skopová (1944), an artist and folklorist living in a small cottage in Vysočina near Hlinsko, evoke the atmosphere of Czech Christmas through a theme that remains the most vibrant within Christmas customs – namely, the theme of festive cuisine. In her engagingly written narrative about what our ancestors served on the Christmas table, along with the customs and traditions, we also find practical Christmas recipes updated to today's commonly available ingredients. The book is accompanied by the author's delicate illustrations. It is no wonder that the Christmas holidays gradually led to a whole series of the author's books, exploring the holidays and customs of Easter, family traditions, and also the world of children's games and joys.
