This book examines one of the darkest periods in Czech history. It describes the destruction of the Second Czechoslovak Republic, the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia in March 1939, and the subsequent Nazi occupation policy, dominated by efforts to absorb and Germanize the Czech lands and exploit their economy completely. The author presents the constitutional, administrative, legal and economic aspects of the regime imposed by the occupiers. He also examines the development of the protectorate’s political system, the problems of collaboration and resistance, and everyday life in the occupied territory, shaped by occupation policy, the impact of major events, propaganda battles and pathological social phenomena. The conclusion discusses the end of the protectorate, assesses the damage caused by the occupation and examines the restoration of the constitutional order. It also compares the protectorate with other Nazi occupation regimes and reviews the state of research to date.
