Description
The poetry of Dorothee Sölle is rooted in Christian spirituality, drawing from the Bible and possessing a personal mystical depth, yet it is surprisingly articulate and comprehensible even for readers outside her spiritual tradition. In her poems, Sölle reflects on specific life situations, interpersonal relationships, social inequalities, and travel experiences. In a minimalist, straightforward manner, she poses questions about truth and social justice, addresses the theme of the relationship with nature, and engages in dialogue with the progressive intellectual and social currents of her time. The first Czech edition of the poetic works of this significant German theologian and activist is a selection from all seven of her poetry collections. The collection Give Me the Gift of a Weeping God is published with the support of the Czech-German Future Fund on the occasion of the late author's 90th birthday. For the first time, Czech readers can become acquainted with the poetic works of this important theologian of the 20th century.
