Description
Short stories by the French writer Marcel Jouhandeau (July 26, 1888 – April 8, 1979). Their source of inspiration is his hometown of Guéret in Limousin. Jouhandeau captures real, living characters. But he chooses, reaching for what he perceives as having a metaphysical dimension, that position 'on the edge', on the axis between good and evil, heaven and hell, with which he has such a strong personal experience. His style thus gains a particular distinctiveness, a kind of straightforwardness and sometimes even a cruel austerity, which can show reality along with its metaphysical reach without the need for any authorial commentary.
