Description
Christmas is a time made for fairy tales and stories. I came across tattered remnants of old children's magazines, and it occurred to me to compile a book of Christmas fairy tales. However, only a few pictures and disjointed pieces of text that didn't make much sense were preserved, yet they inspired me to write new fairy tales, as well as to create collages that complement the stories. Old magazines, postcards, stickers, and advertisements have been my long-time love. The first children's magazine, Malý čtenář, was given to me by my grandmother, who also told me fairy tales and taught me many rhymes and songs. Thus, the book was created from small scraps of the magazine and memories and is supplemented by the sad but beautiful fairy tales The Little Match Girl and The Fir Tree by the immortal storyteller Hans Christian Andersen, along with two slightly modified stories from the book by Anastázius Kočkorád. The introductory word of the book Caravan by Wilhelm Hauff, Where Fairy Tales Live, has also been lightly edited. Finally, I couldn't resist including the charming Christmas story by Jakub Arbes, The Generous Day of the Mánes Brothers, which will be a lovely reminder for parents as well, though it has been slightly shortened and linguistically adjusted for children to understand.
