Jízdní záznamník Jiřího Boudy 1958-63 – Bouda Jiří (2018)

Juvenilia is a work of art from the author's youth; nowadays, the term debut is more commonly used. By a beautiful coincidence, Martin Bouda discovered this splendid travel diary among his late father Jiří's belongings. The first entry was made on October 1, 1958, and we collectively thought to publish it sixty years later in the same form that Jiří Bouda created it. The travel log is written in a charming and humorous manner – exactly in the same spirit as we know from his other diaries from later travels. In the delightful illustrations that accompany the text, one can recognize the style he continued to develop throughout his artistic career. He mentions an old bicycle that he confiscated from his father years ago, on which he traveled all over Bohemia, also riding through Moravia, and even making it to Slovakia. He covered 23,264 km on it, indirectly revealing that he was a very skilled cyclist in his youth. He then purchased a new lightweight Favorit equipped for touring, which he refers to as my vehicle. As life went on, he found less and less time for cycling. The army came, then a job with the railway, family, so he mostly rode it just to work and back home. On the last page, in 1963, he writes down words that are almost prophetic: 'But wait! When I have...'
