Cyklotoulky II. s dětmi, vozíkem a nočníkem – Hroudová Markéta (2012)

This Czech-language travel book follows a family cycling through Romania, Moldova and the unrecognised breakaway region of Transnistria. What is it like to travel through Eastern Europe with small children, drink water from wells, taste kvass, camp wild and wake to flocks of sheep outside the tent? The authors describe the friendly people they meet, many of whom smile at the sight of a child trailer. In Romania, they explore lesser-known regions between the Carpathian arc and the Black Sea, discovering mud volcanoes, salt karst, the Gura Dobrogei gorge, ancient settlements, the Danube Delta and other natural and historical treasures beyond the familiar Transylvania, Dracula and Bucharest. They then travel through Moldova, a dry and rugged land of a thousand hills and one of Europe’s poorest countries, yet rich in welcoming people. Their journey includes a Czech village, the world’s largest wine cellars, Chisinau, rock monasteries and much more. They also visit the unrecognised Transnistrian Moldovan Republic on the left bank of the Dniester, with its hammer-and-sickle decorations and statues of Lenin, preserved reminders of the communist past. The travelling party consists of father Luděk, mother Markéta, three-year-old Víťa and one-and-a-half-year-old Šárka, who spend five weeks covering 2,382 kilometres on two fully loaded bicycles with a tent and a well-travelled yellow child trailer.
