Description
This book examines why Miloš Zeman convincingly won the second round of the presidential election on 26 January 2013, the first direct presidential election in modern Czech history, and what appealed to voters who preferred him over the other candidates. Renowned journalist and author Dr Milan Syruček explores what kind of person and politician Zeman is, together with five other public figures: Miroslav Grégr, Jan Kavan, Antonín Peltrám, Květoslava Kořínková and Alexander Ort. All had known Miloš Zeman through many years of professional and personal contact, encountering him in a wide range of situations, and they describe their experiences in personal, sober and unsparing memoirs. Having voted for him in the election, they explain why they did so. They see him as someone who can help calm conditions in a country damaged by previous political administrations and adventurers, restore prosperity, return the Czech Republic to the international political stage as a serious partner, and establish cooperation rather than confrontation. Above all, they believe he wants and is able to be a president for the country’s ten million citizens.
