Genetika – Kočárek Eduard (2005)

The text assumes a basic knowledge of general (especially cellular) biology. The textbook is conceived as a collection of selected insights that illustrate the development of genetic knowledge from its very beginnings to the present day. Therefore, in most chapters, the historical aspect is emphasized, contributing to a better understanding of the subject matter. Ethical and societal issues arising from the continuous growth of genetic knowledge and its wide application in medicine, agriculture, and biotechnology are also discussed in many places. Students have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the current possibilities of genetic counseling and reproductive medicine, services that are increasingly utilized by patients. The book is intended for a wide range of high school students, from passive listeners to dedicated individuals who would like to pursue genetics in college or in their future careers. We believe that students in bachelor's or supplementary programs with a biological, healthcare, or ecological focus will also find their way to it. This also implies the structure of the text and individual chapters, where essential passages necessary for understanding the material are distinguished from sections intended for deeper study by varying font sizes or background printing.
