Description
The publishing house of Franz Kafka is introducing a unique novella to the Czech book market. The main character of the story is Ottla, Franz Kafka's most beloved sister, an unconventional, stubborn, and energetic woman who faced difficult challenges in her life. The book primarily depicts the last months of her life, based on historical facts and drawing from unpublished letters and notes that Ottla secretly sent to her daughters shortly before her final transport. During World War II, all three of Franz Kafka's sisters, Elli, Valli, and Ottla, were gradually murdered, but her daughters, Věra and Helena, survived thanks to their mother. The book also draws from personal interviews with Věra Saudková, who passed away in August 2015. The editor is Markéta Mališová, and the typography is by Zdeněk Ziegler. The book includes period photographs and documents, a postscript, data, facts, and references. It is published with financial support from the Holocaust Victims Fund and B’nai B’rith Renaissance on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of Franz Kafka's birth.
