Čeština pro život + 2CD – Nekovářová Alena (2008)

This Czech-language conversational textbook is intended for intermediate to advanced foreign students who already speak Czech and want to improve their expression so that they can communicate like native speakers. It develops communication in 15 topics connected with everyday situations, including an ordinary family, eating and drinking, shopping, asking for directions and visiting the doctor. Each lesson begins with introductory questions and a monologue or dialogue, followed by comprehension and independent-expression questions, grammar exercises, and a conversation section supported by photographs and illustrations. The activities encourage students to respond correctly to situations and provide opportunities for both group work and independent vocabulary building. Listening exercises on the two accompanying CDs reinforce newly learned phrases, while the use of everyday spoken language, including colloquial expressions, gives the material an authentic character. The textbook also includes an answer key, transcripts of the listening exercises, a concise overview of Czech grammar, drill exercises in every lesson, and vocabulary with German and English translations. Successful use of the textbook assumes Czech proficiency at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
