The dictionary "Our Surnames" contains explanations of approximately 30,000 Czech surnames that are most commonly found in the Czech Republic. Its foundation is the first edition of this book from 1984, which resulted from the collaboration between Professor Moldanová and her father, Professor Josef Beneš, the author of pioneering monographs "Czech Surnames" and "German Surnames among Czechs." In the new edition, the author utilized previously unavailable population registers for onomastics and expanded the entry list to roughly double, capturing most of the more frequently occurring surnames (the threshold was 100 male bearers). It thus offers a representative overview of the family names used by the residents of the Czech Republic and their linguistic interpretation.
