Heraldika v souvislostech – Pohanka Henry Camillo (2013)

This Czech-language book examines European heraldry against its historical, scholarly, artistic and broader factual background, presenting it as a phenomenal, timeless, unified whole that continues to develop and of which Czech heraldry forms an integral part. It seeks to capture the many connections linking heraldry with related fields and fills certain gaps in Czech awareness of the subject. The book systematically covers the full range of heraldic variants, including noble, civic, municipal, ecclesiastical, guild and Napoleonic heraldry, as well as others. It comprehensively describes the origin, nature and meaning of all European ordinary and heraldic figures, and presents several hundred varied coats of arms rendered in heraldic tinctures to illustrate the expressive possibilities of heraldry. It also considers the related auxiliary historical sciences and outlines the development of Czech statehood through the symbolism of its coat of arms, from the Přemyslids to the present day. The book concludes with a multilingual dictionary of heraldic terms, previously unpublished in the Czech Republic.
