Description
In contrast to their predecessors, who dedicated their work to the national movement as well as women's education, the authors born in the 1860s consider it a primary task to 'speak in their mother tongue' and, like their male colleagues, to express their personal, thus female, perspective on the world. This transformation is reflected both in their work, which resonates with modernist currents of the fin de siècle, and in their personal attitudes and activities. Attention is given to personalities such as Růžena Svobodová, Božena Viková-Kunětická, Růžena Jesenská, Jiří Sumín (Amálie Vrbová), Hana Kvapilová, as well as younger authors, Božena Benešová and Anna Marie Tilschová. The author does not separate women's writing from the flow of literature and seeks commonalities and differences between female and male writing. Therefore, male names also appear here: Vilém Mrštík, Čapek-Chod, Fráňa Šrámek, and others.
