The book Searching for Public Service does not aim to find a single valid definition of public service. That is not even possible. It is not possible, as some, unfortunately including those who decide on the legal framework of public service, think, to succinctly define what it is. What public service is and what it is not. Public service is a living organism that must respond to technological and social developments. The question is whether, alongside public goods and public services, we still need to preserve public space and public communication, a dialogue with the public, in today's world influenced by social networks. The book clarifies key concepts, debates various opinions, and simultaneously gathers available Czech and European regulatory norms, directives, and content recommendations, Czech and European court decisions, and various surveys that deal with the media and their role in society, including empirical data, graphs, and diagrams.
