Description
Lieutenant Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the starship Intrepid, the flagship of the World Union since 2456. It's a prestigious placement, and Andrew is additionally excited about the opportunity to work in the xenobiology lab. Life is good... until Andrew starts piecing together the facts and realizes that (1) every exploratory mission encounters some deadly confrontation with alien armed forces or phenomena, (2) the ship's captain, chief science officer, and handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these encounters, and (3) at least one lower-ranking crew member unfortunately always loses their life. It's no wonder that the majority of the ship's crew puts a lot of energy into avoiding assignment to the exploration team at all costs. However, Andrew then stumbles upon information that completely changes his and his colleagues' perspective on what the starship Intrepid actually is... and devises a crazy and risky plan to save their lives.
