Description
For thousands of years, Homo sapiens, the species that emerged after the Neanderthals became extinct, lived throughout the world in small, cooperative groups sustained by hunting and gathering. Then, quite suddenly, around 3000 BC, six great civilizations appeared across the globe. All six contained myths about gods descending to Earth, creating humanity in their own image, and teaching people agriculture and the achievements of civilized life. The cultures of Egypt, Sumer, Peru, Mexico, China and India all built gigantic pyramids, even though modern science cannot explain how or where these ancient people acquired the advanced technological knowledge required to construct such monuments. The sudden emergence of these civilizations and the similarities in their development challenge Darwin’s theory of evolution, since no intermediate stages of Homo sapiens exist to connect these advanced peoples with the hunter-gatherer tribes that preceded them and continued to live elsewhere on Earth in a way that had remained unchanged for many thousands of years.
