Description

The Danish anthology presents eleven contemporary authors from the Kingdom of Denmark, which includes not only Denmark itself but also the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Several of them have already been published in Czech, such as Naja Marie Aidt and Greenlandic author Niviaq Korneliussen – from whom you will find an excerpt from the novel The Valley of Flowers, for which she received the Nordic Council Prize in 2020. The Czech audience is already familiar with Martin Jensen, and here we offer an excerpt from the novel Death is Just a Moment set in the Danish countryside of the 19th century. The other authors in the anthology are making their Czech debut. Another laureate of the Nordic Council Prize, Kirsten Thorup, will be featured, and Bjorn Rasmussen and Christina Hesselholdt have also been nominated for the mentioned prize. Significant contemporary authors include Mich Vraa, Nina Kreutzmann Jorgensen, Iben Mondrup, Lone Horslev, and Olga Ravnová. The anthology offers a glimpse not only into the past, with colonization and exploration journeys, but also into everyday life today – prenatal courses, the intoxication of love, drugs, birth, and death. And all this takes place in various locations across the Kingdom of Denmark, presented in both Danish and Czech, as the anthology is designed as a bilingual publication supplemented with author profiles and accompanying texts about Danish literature.
