Doba a slovesnost – Pistorius Jiří (2007)

An anthology from the lifelong work of a significant Czech comparatist. The book by Jiří Pistorius, Doba a slovesnost, is an extensive selection of the author's studies and critiques. His foreign-language texts are published in Czech for the very first time here. J. Pistorius emerges as a careful reader who arrives at his findings based on detailed analysis of the works of individual authors. Particularly in his studies on Franco-German literary relations in the first half of the 20th century or on the reception of French writers' works in post-war Czechoslovakia, J. Pistorius addresses often unexplored themes. His effort to capture the context and sources of individual motifs as broadly as possible is characteristic of his materially rich and methodologically exemplary comparative studies (see, for example, "The Legendary Theme of Czech Amazons in French and German Literature" from 1957).
