Japan in the 12th century, a country torn by a power struggle raging between the Taira and Minamoto clans. However, behind the apparent contest for power lies more - a conflict so deep that nothing can reconcile it except the complete destruction of one side. Human life has little value, and amidst the turmoil, a young Minamoto spy meets a former courtesan who has ended up in the hands of the Taira.
