Migration does not only mean a person leaving for abroad. An inseparable part of this phenomenon are the families that remain at home – most often women and children. What happens to them? What is their daily life like, for example, in Mexico, Senegal, Ethiopia, but also in Romania or Slovakia? How do they face global challenges that force their men, sons, or fathers to leave? This is what reporter Magdaléna Rojo writes about in her book Women Who Stayed. It is a book about migration. Or rather about motherhood? Childhood without fathers? Life without husbands? Aging without children? All those anonymous people who seek work elsewhere than at home have their human faces and stories. They just unfold outside the interest of the larger world.
