The German textbook for 5th grade primary school, a workbook, is designed for children aged 9-12 years. Each part of the textbook contains nine thematic areas, and each lesson is divided into ten teaching hours. The content and scope of the curriculum correspond to the requirements of the Framework Educational Program for Basic Education, aiming to achieve the reference level A1 according to the CEFR. The teaching set is based on a communicative, pragmatically oriented method and respects the age characteristics of the students. Visual teaching, creative activities, imitation, and the use of games, songs, and drama education create a positive relationship for the student towards learning a foreign language. Students learn to respond naturally in everyday life situations appropriate to their age. They become familiar with the sound and graphic form of the German language. Students develop listening comprehension (understanding the teacher, native speakers on recordings, classmates) and oral expression (songs and rhymes, conducting micro-dialogues, varying conversations, simple coherent storytelling). Students gradually practice reading comprehension and written expression. The workbook complements the student textbook and includes an appendix summarizing the curriculum, known as the Sprachenportfolio (Language Portfolio, Language Biography, Dossier).
