Description
It is January 1599. Prague is gripped by bitter frost, while snow covers its streets and rooftops. As winter slows the spread of the plague, knight Jakub Jelínek of Hiršberg awaits the birth of his first child. His peace is soon disturbed by the return of his sister Kateřina, from whom he was separated by past disputes. She asks for his help because someone is trying to take the family stronghold of Hiršberg from her. Jakub reluctantly begins an investigation that leads into a world of ownership disputes, forged documents and ruthless people willing to risk everything for someone else’s property. As he encounters indifferent officials and hired bandits, he uncovers clues to secrets meant to remain hidden forever. The deeper he delves into his family’s past, the clearer it becomes that the dispute is more than a simple property struggle: behind the false documents and hatred lies an old betrayal whose consequences may endanger his sister and everyone he cares about. This historical detective story is set in golden Prague, a city of intrigue, crime and vice. The contents are in Czech.
