Twenty-seven years of silence surround the discovery of a boy who disappeared without a trace. The remains of an murdered eleven-year-old boy, wrapped in a black plastic bag, lie in an excavation trench. Lieutenant Bohumil “Choroš” Charvát of the Písek criminal investigation department and his colleague, the legless Ukrainian refugee Lev Bohdanovyč Koval, know that finding the killer more than a quarter of a century later will not be easy, especially since the place where the perpetrator buried the body has completely changed. Around the turn of the millennium, life pulsed through the local Paluba music club and the adjacent Spartak sports complex. Hundreds of people came and went without leaving a trace. Choroš and Lev must return to the past and painstakingly investigate which of them might have had a reason to kill. Every new question stirs up the mud, and every answer contains a piece of dirt. Was the crime committed by the watchman who fled to Germany after the boy disappeared, or perhaps by a coach with an undisclosed interest in young boys? If Choroš and Lev do not uncover the killer in time, the truth may disappear once again, this time forever.
