Description

Young Judge Ti Jen-ťie arrives in the misty port of Peng-laj to take up his first official post. Instead of the quiet administration of a district, he finds a nest of intrigue. His predecessor, Wang, has died under mysterious circumstances in a locked study, and the threads of the crime lead to the highest levels of the imperial administration. With the help of his loyal sergeant Chung and two reformed bandits, Ma Žung and Ťiao Taj, Judge Ti must solve not only the death of the magistrate and the disappearance of a young bride, but also uncover the secret of a golden statue that threatens the stability of the entire empire. Every step may cost them their lives, for the enemy is much closer than they realise. In this Czech-language novel, the first chronologically in Robert van Gulik’s celebrated series of historical mysteries set in ancient China, the legendary Judge Ti makes his debut.
