Description
This biography traces Roman Dragoun’s life from his childhood in Písek, through his work on the Brno rock scene, to his induction into the Beat Hall of Fame. His early musical talent led him to piano lessons and improvisation influenced by classical music and rock. In 1975 he joined the amateur band Regenerace, and in 1980 entered Progres 2, replacing keyboard player Karel Horký and singer Pavel Váně. His song “Muž, který se podobá odvrácené straně měsíce” from the album Třetí kniha džunglí was named Rock Song of the Year in 1982. During the 1980s he founded Futurum with Miloš Morávek, joined Michal Pavlíček’s Stromboli in 1989, played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar and worked with Bára Basiková and Zuzana Michnová. The book also discusses his solo albums, his collaboration with poet Milan Princ, and his path through normalization, samizdat and democracy. It presents Dragoun as a devout Catholic shaped by family and a desire to “cleanse the heart through music,” and includes personal memories, archival photographs and documents.
