Description
Ontario, 1972. Seven-year-old Clara sits by the window in the living room every day, hoping to catch a glimpse of her older sister at any moment. Rose, a rebellious teenager, ran away from home without a word, and no one has heard from her for weeks. Clara finds solace only in the cat Moses, whom she cares for because his owner, Mrs. Orchard, went to the hospital a few weeks ago and still hasn't returned. A thirty-something man, Liam Kane, moves into Mrs. Orchard's neighboring house. He is new to town, recently divorced, and currently unemployed. Clara is surprised by his arrival, but it also unsettles her. Not even a few hours after his arrival, a police officer knocks on Liam's door. Is he suspicious of something? Elizabeth Orchard, whose life is slowly coming to an end, reflects on the significant moments of her life in the hospital. Gradually, a mysterious relationship with the newcomer is revealed. The captivatingly poetic novel Before the First Snow Falls is told from three different perspectives: that of Clara, Mrs. Orchard, and Liam Kane. Their stories intertwine, and they get under the reader's skin: revealing their struggles and sorrows, regrets, but also the love that connects them all...
