Description
Unique memories of the doctor, poet, and Cossack Nikolai Kelin, father of historian Alexei Kelin. A personal testimony from a young artillery officer who experienced the hardships of World War I and the fatal consequences of the Bolshevik Revolution, the Civil War, forced emigration, and separation from family and beloved homeland. Kelin narrowly escaped the repressions of the newly established regime. In the early 1920s, as part of the Russian Relief Action, he traveled to Czechoslovakia, where he studied at the medical faculty and began working as a general practitioner. Even here, fate was not always kind to him. He had to face the German occupation, the arrival of the Red Army, repeated imprisonment, and brutal interrogations by SMERSH. Despite the life he built for himself, his wife, and children in the face of all adversity, the Cossack tenacity and longing for the warm embrace of his native Don never left his heart.
