This literary fiction offers an unconventional, lightly exaggerated portrait of the writer, philosopher and, above all, human being Karel Čapek rather than an academic study. František Novotný originally created a successful 80-part radio series in which, as a twenty-first-century poet and radio presenter crossing the boundaries of time, he conversed with a writer from the previous century, whose voice was performed by actor Luděk Munzar. Čapek’s replies were drawn from his essays, feuilletons and newspaper articles, each focused on an engaging subject. The book is based on this successful radio series and selects its finest material.
