Description
The renaissance of the traditionally argumentative concept of rhetoric, which in the 20th century was offered in the form of neo-rhetoric by figures such as Ch. Perelman and S. Toulmin, has reopened the path for its functional application in education. In the form of competitive debating, agonistic rhetoric has taken on a modern guise, yet it has preserved its traditional mission: the development of skills and knowledge in the areas of critical thinking and argumentation, information searching and evaluation, and communication competencies. Today's debating competitions have added the necessity of deepening knowledge about the world around us and teamwork. In the Czech Republic, competitive rhetoric has been cultivated in secondary and higher education for more than a quarter of a century. The collection of texts Competitive Rhetoric: Debating in the Form of KP reflects the experiences and insights gathered during this time. It is the first text of its kind aimed at supporting education in areas developed by neo-rhetoric, addressing a broader pedagogical and student audience.
