Description
The book Tao Te Ching represents one of the foundational texts of the world and a primary source of Chinese painting and poetry. In 1973, the oldest known texts of the book were uncovered on silk scrolls in the Ma-wang-tui tomb, but a true sensation occurred in 1993 when a text of the Tao dating back to around 350 BC was excavated in another tomb, Kuo-tien. This discovery holds the same significance as the Dead Sea Scrolls for biblical studies. This translation returns to the old, raw Tao. It is powerful, archaic, and strange. Each chapter of the book is accompanied by a brief commentary from the 3rd-century literatus Wang Pi.
