Description
Walking has existed since the beginning, just like the wild nature that Henry David Thoreau returned to during his walks. He spent several hours walking daily, avoiding civilization. In his essay, he appeals to his contemporaries and to us to become his brother monks, walkers. It is astonishing that even back then – he wrote Walking in 1861 – he observed the problems we face today: people distancing themselves from nature and prioritizing comfort at all costs. Thoreau speaks of the landscape, of its shaping by man and vice versa, of the shaping of man by the landscape. He narrates about paths in both literal and metaphorical senses. He raises many questions and answers several of them.
