Description

This book tells the story of Alagammal, the mother of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. More than a century ago, Alagammal made her final ascent of the sacred mountain Arunachala so that she could remain close to her son. What began as a mother’s wish to live beside her child gradually became a disciple’s spiritual devotion to her sadguru, Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. Her spiritual journey is presented for the first time in the form of katha, an Indian literary style of retelling a spiritual biography. The facts and dates are historically documented. Through a prose portrait of her life, the author modestly attempts to depict the pain and suffering of a young mother and widow whose fate was to lose much on a human level, yet ultimately attain liberation from the cycle of birth and death at the end of her earthly existence. This is the story of a soul’s journey from individual motherhood to the motherhood of the universal absolute. The complete story reaches Czech readers for the first time, with the aim of inspiring them to persevere in the spiritual struggle for ultimate freedom despite the most difficult personal obstacles. The Czech translation by Janka Korchanová is supplemented with documentary photographs and other visual materials. The contents are in Czech.
