Description
This Czech-language book is the first part of a trilogy about Emma, a young woman who decides to speak after twenty-three years of silence. The story begins in a student town in North Wales and continues in Bohemia, where the second part of the trilogy also takes place. Emma sets out on a journey towards the truth, uncovering buried memories and the pain that shaped her, and gives a voice to those who were afraid to speak. It is a confession about love that both hurts and heals, guilt and forgiveness, falling and finding the strength to rise again. The heroine faces inner struggles and moments when the world around her seems to collapse, as well as the strength and vulnerability born from them. The book is not fiction but is based on a true story. The names of the characters have been changed and some circumstances adjusted for personal and understandable reasons, without altering the truthful core of the story. The number 23 appears twice on the cover, recalling twenty-three years of silence and the age of the girl who reveals her inner self with disarming honesty. Illustrations by Pavla Hovorková accompany the book and invite the reader into the story.
