Křivoklátsko cesta domovem - Rozhovory o lese, památkách, rodové historii, víře i umění – Indrová Semelková Romana (2025)

Nominated for the 2026 Magnesia Litera Award for non-fiction and longlisted for the Magnesia Litera Award for debut of the year, this author’s book about Křivoklátsko and its people combines engaging stories with photographs. Through interviews, a mosaic of local personalities offers glimpses into secluded Křivoklátsko forests, a residential home for people with disabilities, a castle ruin, a soap-making workshop in an old mill, a family estate and a painter’s studio. The region is seen through the eyes of people who live there, have deep roots there or have found a new home there. Those interviewed include Miroslav Pecha, director of the Křivoklátsko Forestry Park; Karolina Perníková, owner of a historic mill in Pustověty, soap maker, baker and passionate cook; artist Eva Chmelová; Jiří Sobek, castellan of Krakovec Castle; Ilona Hrušková, director of a day centre for people with mental and physical disabilities; and painter Jaroslav Houba, whose favourite subjects include the Berounka River and Křivoklátsko. The book also explores local curiosities, including who lived beneath Týřov Castle, how the Skryjská Lakes acquired their present form, why the Berounka has no source and where Křivoklátsko got its name. The interviews are accompanied by photographs by Romana Indrová Semelková, which capture personal impressions and moments rather than providing factual descriptions. The contents are in Czech.
