Orbis sensualium pictus – Komenský Jan Ámos (2024)

After many years, the unique work of Jan Amos Comenius – ORBIS SENSUALIUM PICTUS (The World in Pictures) is being published again, and it should not be missing from any family or school library. This is a selection from Comenius' language encyclopedia, which was so ahead of its time at the time of its publication that it continued to serve as a living teaching aid for language learning for centuries – in our case, until the beginning of the last century. The current edition has been prepared by a team of experts led by doc. PhDr. Naděždy Kvítkové, CSc., and is supplemented with a comprehensive introduction and commentary on the work. The new edition includes the original Latin texts and is accompanied by parallel translations into contemporary Czech, German, English, and Russian. No less important is the illustrated section of the book, which reproduces the original woodcuts from several historical editions and thus attempts to compare the development of the visual culture of that time in an unconventional way. ORBIS PICTUS is published in a hardcover with a relief embossing on the title.
