The current selection from the unique illustrated textbook by Jan Amos Komenský, supplemented with new illustrations by Václav Sokol, aims to convey the world in images to today's young readers. For this publication, the authors selected themes that can be summarized under the subtitle 'Man and His World.' The book contains Komenský's texts in modernized Czech, complemented by a current German translation and the original Latin. Thus, the book can confidently serve the original intention of its author – it can open a window to the world of foreign languages for young readers. This current publication builds on several previous books in this edition. ***** Man and His World According to Komenský *** Gymnasium professor Josef Černý, the great-grandfather of painter Václav Sokol and philosopher Jan Sokol, earned extra income during the summer by selecting important books that should be republished. Thus, in 1883, under the auspices of Jan Pospíšil, a renewed edition of Orbis Pictus – The World in Pictures by Jan Amos Komenský was published in Hradec Králové. The world's most published textbook was 225 years old. To this day, it has gained another 140 years and many new editions.
