The adventures of Luther Arkwright, which began publication in 1978, are widely regarded as the first British graphic novel. In 2001, its sequel, Heart of Empire, was released. Since then, both publications have seen numerous new editions. The Legend of Luther Arkwright is a standalone story set fifty years after the events of Heart of Empire. It is a completely new tale that maintains continuity with the first two volumes.
