Description
The Dassault Mirage 2000 multirole aircraft represents the pinnacle of the highly successful Mirage series and is the last example of the classic design school with its characteristic delta wing. For the French manufacturer, it was another breakthrough aircraft which, despite its conventional appearance, concealed many new technologies, including fly-by-wire controls, FADEC engine control, a pulse-Doppler radar and a digital data bus for communication between onboard systems. The richness of its equipment, together with France’s reluctance to abandon certain elements and its decision to develop them domestically, explains why the aircraft emerged as a fully French design, despite its roots in European cooperation. It is therefore an important bearer of technological development, without which French industry could not have worked on the subsequent Rafale. The Mirage 2000 is not merely an interim type, but a highly successful fourth-generation aircraft with several foreign operators who continue to rely on it. Its success four decades after its first flight is demonstrated not only by its combat deployments with France and export users, but also by its recent achievements in Ukraine, where Ukrainian pilots use it effectively, for example against drones.
