Description
The multi-role aircraft Eurofighter, internationally known in English as Typhoon and originally called EF2000, represents the most sophisticated and also the most expensive European combat type. It is the largest cooperative program that followed the development of previous European models Tornado and Jaguar, which demonstrated that the path of sharing costs and capabilities is possible in Europe and can lead to the creation of successful technology with both domestic and export potential. However, the emergence of the Eurofighter, associated with the close cooperation of several countries, also reflected in the complex negotiations of final solutions. Politics played a larger role in its creation and service than in the case of any other aircraft. Yet it was precisely this political dimension that enabled a significant streamlining of European military cooperation and contributed greatly to the consolidation of the European aerospace industry. Despite all the problems and the slow acquisition of key capabilities, a very effective type was created, which garnered interest abroad. Moreover, the extent of its international cooperation allowed the industries of the involved countries to secure development and production contracts for three decades, thus stabilizing the European development and production base until the development of the sixth-generation aircraft is completed.
