Československá armáda a její výzbroj ve fotografii 1918-1939 – Fuksa Ivan (2024)

This photographic publication presents the Czechoslovak armed forces during the First Republic, from 1918 to 1939, through more than 700 period photographs. Created as a commemoration of the men who served in the Czechoslovak army during the twenty years of the independent state’s existence, it includes many images published for the first time, alongside some familiar photographs that provide a comprehensive view of the subject. The book covers the individual branches of the armed forces, their weapons and equipment, Czechoslovak fortifications, and important figures who influenced the operation and appearance of the military. Aviation receives only a brief mention, as numerous recent publications have already focused on it, allowing more space for less familiar and accessible topics. The chapters are arranged by subject and begin with a short introduction to the relevant area during the First Republic, followed by photographs with detailed captions. The captions do not aim to provide a complete study of the army between 1918 and 1939; instead, a selected bibliography at the end points readers towards further research. The photographs cover the entire First Republic period, including examples showing the continued use of interwar military weapons after 1939. They come from various institutions, principally the extensive archives of the Military Historical Institute Prague and the Military Historical Archive, as well as archives throughout the Czech Republic and several private collections.
