Description
The first military and aviation activities of the Czechoslovak Republic (hereinafter referred to as CSR) in relation to the southeastern Mediterranean area are already known from 1948, although at that time only in the commercial sphere, without the direct involvement of Czechoslovak Air Force personnel in the area. They concerned Czechoslovak assistance to the newly established state of Israel, of which a significant item was the training of Israeli aviation personnel in our country and the supply of aviation materials and technology. Negotiations on military assistance were conducted by Egypt with the USSR and CSR from April 1955. The relevant contract was concluded on September 12, 1955, for a total supply volume of 921 million Kčs, of which the Czechoslovak share amounted to 398 million, of which 184,262,400 Kčs in currencies, the rest in goods. The USSR was to supply 523 million Kčs in goods. As for the material fulfillment, by October 20, 1955, CSR was to deliver 20 MiG-15bis aircraft (then Czechoslovak designation S-103), two UTI MiG-15 or CS-102, while the USSR was to deliver 15 Il-28 bombers and two training UIl-28s by the same deadline. The supplies were also to include 25 continuation training aircraft Jak-11, although it is not clearly stated here...
