Description
The training of professional pilots in officer ranks during the First Republic was initially addressed by selecting officers from other branches who were incorporated into flight training. Later, an aviation department was established at the Military Academy for this purpose, which became part of the Aviation School Detachment of the II Military Aviation School in Prostějov from 1934. It is questionable how practical this dual subordination of the aviation department was; in any case, there was an intention to establish an aviation school for training professional aviation officers as early as 1938. Due to subsequent events, this plan could not be realized until after the restoration of the republic's independence, when the Air Force Military Academy was established on September 15, 1945, in Hradec Králové. By 1951, it had trained over 360 pilots - professional officers, 87 technicians, and 64 navigators. It was dissolved on August 15, 1951. Its mission was taken over by the Aviation School in Prostějov, which until then had only trained pilots in non-commissioned officer ranks. The publication details the history of the academy, training, and the aviation technology used.
