Description
Prague Metro was not intended to be merely a means of transport. Fifty years ago, this construction beneath the city created a space with the potential to fulfil the modernist idea that art could cultivate people. This vision is reflected in the attention given to architecture, interior aesthetics, lighting, signage and orientation systems, visual art and design. Artists worked alongside architects as active co-creators of the environment, helping make Prague’s underground railway one of the most impressive in the world. Through texts and photographs, this book presents the project as an architectural, artistic and urban phenomenon, as well as a unique, living trace of history preserved beneath the city.
